Business: Agro-Vet.
Location:
Molo Town.
Years in Operation:
13 Years.
Amount needed:
$450.

The Agro-vet business has grown in popularity over the years due to the upsurge of people who have ventured into agribusiness. Since such entrepreneurs go in for the huge profits that agribusiness promises, they invest a lot in using all the necessary inputs during production. Hence the ever-growing demand for farm inputs. This is what drove Margaret and her husband into setting up their agro-vet shop. Margaret has been a client of Moto Hope Capital since the year 2017. MHC has provided all the working capital boost that she has required and helped her to diversify and successfully run different business ventures. Margaret has received funding from MHC nine different times to a tune of $9,500.

Margaret’s Agro-vet is located in Kitale’s Makutano. This area has a relatively high density of farmers seeing as Kitale and Trans-Nzoia County at large is the country’s breadbasket. This is especially where maize is concerned. There aren’t many other high-capitalized agro-vets neighboring Margaret’s which affords her some monopoly over the available farmers. Margaret purchases from suppliers and wholesalers who stock quality products at the fairest prices, to her customers’ advantage. The years in this business have taught Margaret to stock mostly products that support maize farming as well as dairy farming like seeds, fertilizers, animal feeds, pesticides, herbicides, acaricides, and knapsacks among other farm inputs that are demanded by her customers.

Besides the agro-vet, Margaret and her husband also run a mini- gas station and a motorbike spare parts shop both located in Makutano center. She is seeking $1,320 from Moto Hope Capital to boost the gas station business. This additional working capital will enable them to continue to diversify and scale upwards. She has in employment at least three people at any given time. Thus the business has not only enabled her family to improve welfare and afforded her three children quality education but also enables three other families to eke a living.
